Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons.) in Mechanical (Automotive)

As one of one of the largest engineering disciplines, mechanical engineering focuses on the design and development of all types of mechanical systems including automotive. Mechanical engineering encompasses thermodynamics, heat transfer, structures and materials, fluid dynamics and advanced control systems. Automotive engineering is a specialized branch of mechanical engineering and focuses on the design, manufacture and operations of cars and engines. 

Career Path

Mechanical engineers provide efficient solutions to the development of processes and products, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plant, machinery or vehicles. They can work on all stages of a product, from research and development to design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning. Most industries rely on a form of mechanical systems and mechanical engineering is thought to be one of the most diverse of all engineering disciplines. There are employment opportunities available in a wide range of sectors, such as the manufacturing, automotive and industrial engineering. Mechanical engineers can also be involved in the management of people and resources, as well as the development and use of new materials and technologies.

Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, mechanical engineering fundamentals and automotive fundamentals to define and applied engineering procedures, process, systems or methodologies

Identify, formulate, research literature, modelling, simulate and solve broadly-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using appropriate analytical tools related to mechanical and automotive engineering technology

Design solutions for broadly-defined engineering technology problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or process to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations

Conduct investigations of broadly-defined problems: locate, search and select relevant data from codes, data bases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusion
